Restored Vista from recovery partition, but cannot create backup using DataSafe Local Backup
Hi Folks,
I've got a Dell Studio 1555 laptop which I restored using the recovery partition, and that went fine. It's back to the factory default Windows Vista, including some Dell utilities. Now I want to create recovery disks, and the user manual says to go to Programs -> Dell DataSafe Local backup, and click on "Create Recovery Media". OK fine, except there is no DataSafe installed. So OK, I go to Dells site to download it, and the page says "Congratulations!!! Easy step 1: Passed" ... Easy step 2: Download the basic version etc. etc. , which I did. The problem is, when I run it, it says "Dell DataSafe Local backup can only be installed on systems running Microsoft Windows 7". What the?
So much for "Passed".. Does anyone have any ideas? I'd like to get a good backup because I think the hard drive is going on this thing.
Thanks very much!

Hi avonnieda,
I would like to know if the Datasafe Local Back up was installed when you received the system. In case you had the software factory installed you will be able to create the recovery Media.
Please revert to this post for further assistance.

Hi Sujatha, thanks for the reply. I had never tried to use the DataSafe software prior to doing the restore from the recovery partition, so I honestly don't know if it was there or not. But the bottom line is that I already did the full system restore from the recovery partition and now I have no way to create recovery disks. Is there anything you can tell me to help me do this?I do have the original CD's that came with the system, and there's none that are marked DataSafe or recovery disk either.
Thanks very much,
-Adam

Hi avonnieda,
Since you have the original cd that came with the system, you don’t have to worry about creating a recovery CD. Creating recovery CD is nothing but creating windows CD. Please ensure that you keep the original CD safe, incase it is needed in future for OS reinstallation.

I think you missed my point. I don't have recovery or installation CD's. The CD's I have are Microsoft Works and Roxio. I still have no way to create a recovery disk.

Hi avonnieda,
I suggest that you download the Dell Data Safe Local Back up from the link given below.

Step 2 will down load the basic version of Data Safe Local. In case the recovery partition is detected, you will be able to create the recovery CD.

The following is from my first post on this thread.

HI avonnieda,
The only option we have is to buy the Windows vista CD, since you do not have Data safe Local factory installed on the system.
