I am using the notebook keyboard. The mouse limited functionality applies whether I use the touch pad or an external usb mouse.

In checking the Device Manager, I find the Synaptics PS/2 Port pointing Device and and HID compliant mouse under the mouse settings. Have the Standard 101/102 keyboard or MS Natural PS/2 Keyboard listed for the keyboard.

Cannot find any references to Quickset in my computer. Is it a program that comes with Vista?

Re what I can and cannot do:

In my main and other established user accounts in Vista, I lose most of my mouse and keyboard functionality if I boot into safe mode (can only use ctrl/shift/esc and ctrl/alt/delete on keyboard while in windows; can only use mouse buttons in the resulting windows. Full keyboard functionality in the processes screen after I ctrl/shift/esc).

If I create a temporary new user, no problem in safe mode. If I first go to the new user in safe mode, then log into one of my preexisting accounts, keyboard and mouse work! A "workaround", but a pain.

Not sure if that helps, but .. .
