Is it connected to the Internet at the time? I run scandisk on our PCs at work, which are always network connected, and I get this error a lot. After the ten times warning I just click on No when it asks if I want to continue to receive this warning.
Thanks for your reply. No it's not connected to the internet at all times, in fact it was not connected when I was trying to run ScanDisk. The problem was I could only get as far as " checking file allocation tables.....checking folders....then it would reset. Even if I say "no" to getting the message, I still was not scan the disk.
If this is on an OS other than Windows XP, the easiest way is to start Windows in safe mode and then run it.
If you try to run it in normal Windows mode, there are so many background programs running that it usually will never finish.
There is another option, do a google search for "enditall2" program. If you run that program with Windows in the normal mode, it will shut down everything except what is absolutely needed for Windows to run and then you can do the scandisk. But, you will still have to reboot after running the scandisk so the easiest thing is to just start Windows in safe mode, run scandisk then reboot.
