Scared to upgrade to SP2

I've heard it was buggy but now it's been fixed. I've also been told to update my bios. I'm not sure how to do this. Can anyone give me some advice or tell me what to download?

Any help appreciated.

Maybe so, but DO NOT upgrade without at least a backup of your data - preferably the entire system.

Download or order the XP2 service pack in its entirety - don't do the online update.

Too many things can go wrong. It's better to install it from the complete, offline installer.

I have all the major spyware programs installed and scan and check everyday. I'm just scared about the update itself but I just ordered the cd from the link above.

Microsoft has also strongly suggested that you use a spyware program and run it prior to the install of SP-2 to be on the safe side and have a smoother installation.

Dim 4400
2.6 Ghz 400 FSB
1 Gb 2100 DDR Memory
20 Gb hard drive 7,200
Windows XP Home - SP-2
Leadtek 6600 GT ( AGP ) video
48xCDRW
17 LCD ( 1703 FP )
250 watt power supply

I ordered a free SP2 CD from Microsoft. I updated with no problems computer works fine. Go here to order yours its better than downloading it. Click the link
Free SP2 CD From Microsoft
I have installed SP2 on a number of computers and never had to update the BIOS.

Lol... everyone has different luck.

If you experience a large slow down in performance, roll back your CPU driver to SP1. This usually fixes the problem.

You can do this by going into Device Manager. Right Click My Computer. Choose Properties. Hit the Hardware tab. Choose Device Manager. Hit the + sign on Processors. Right click the processor and choose Properties. Go to the Driver tab and choose Roll Back Driver.

Only do this if you can notice a slow down in performance. Otherwise, don't.

I downloaded it as well, absolutely no problems. Its better to download it I feel because your getting the most up-to-date version all at once. Also download Microsoft's Anti Spyware Beta 1, its free for now and works well.

Yeah, the CD works. If you want to be more on the safe side because your computer may be at risk during installation, unplug your ethernet cable which connects you to the internet.

I got the CD myself. Never installed it though.

It doesn't matter if you download it or install it from the CD you still get the same SP2 Update Version. I like the CD because if I have to reformat and reinstall the operating system I can install SP2 before I connect to the internet.
