Search Engines Not Working
I can do anything on the internet except do searches. I am using ie 5.01 and when I try to do a search, the browswer completely freezes and I have to control, alt, delete to get out of it. Any suggestions?

*Go to Tools, Internet Options.
*Click the "Content" Tab
*Click the "AutoComplete" button
*Under "Use autocomplete for" uncheck the box that says "Forms" and click ok to both the windows open. Close and reopen IE.
Hope this helps, please contact me if you have any further questions.

In ICQ, click the ICQ logo at the bottom. Click Preferences & Security and click Email Preferences. Make sure that under "Select the default ICQ email client" "Use current registered windows email client" is selected. Click ok.
As for the Outlook Express thing, I don't know what to tell you. Haven't yet figured it out, but I'll keep you posted on anything that I find. I have seen many machines that it takes a very long time to load, but on mine it doesn't (machines with similar specs) so I don't know why...

Check this out: Dell has added a " scratch pad" conference to post test messages and test sig's. It will be cleared out weekly so it can keep the extra traffic off the boards. Your help is greatly appreciated!!!
You can find a very good tutorial on adding sig's and links to your posts at Denny's Site.

Well I sort of have the same problems as both the problems above. First some of my search engines are not working like (msm and Yahoo). The only one I can get to work is Iwon. I tried what you said above and it still does not work. It was working fine when I got my computer then a few months ago I was unable to search. Also just recently my Outlook Express has been taken forever to come up.
I have Windows XP does that site you mentioned above still help me or no?
Thanks,
Tara Higgins

First note that you are replying to a post that is over 3 years old. Second, notice that you are posting in the Software - Windows 98 forum and you have Windows XP.
It sound like you have somehow gotten a search engine hijacker. These are very common now, but were not even heard of back in 1999. To solve your problem see the message at the top of the Virus Information and Removal forum by ChrisRLG. Download, install, update, and run Spybot and Ad-Aware (links in the message) and let them get rid of any garbage they find:
http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=si_virus&message.id=572
If that doesn't solve the problem, continue on with the Chris' instructions for HijackThis.
In the future if you have software problems, post your question in the Software - Windows XP forum.

Well, thank it sort of helping out. I got some of my pages to work again but my search engines are still a no go. I didn't realize the date etc. I typed in Search engines not working in the search box and I brought up every topic about that. I didn't even realize it was for Windows 98 etc. It helped a little though.
Thanks,
Tara
