Sent wrong Drivers and Utilities Disk and sound card isn't recognized
I was having problems with my computer constantly freezing so I reinstall windows and everything seems to be fine now, except my front microphone jack is not working. When I right click the speaker icon in the tray and select 'recording devices' it says there are no audio devices installed. In the Device manager, the only audio I have listed are two 'High Definition Sound Device'. I never installed the drivers off of the drivers and utilities disk because i received the wrong disk with my machine. I have an XPS420 and the disk is only for XPS 630 and 730. I tried the drivers download page but It is lacking the Audio drivers I need (maybe?). I honestly dont really know what is going on and would really appreciate some assistance. Thank you in advance!

What Operating System? I see Vista 32 bit and Vista 64 bit drivers listed on the Dell downloads. Access and use the drivers for which bit version you have. If you have upgraded to Windows 7 the Vista drivers will still work.
It shows SigmaTel for the audio, if you have the on the motherboard Audio. You do not need the Drivers and Utilities disc as everything is available on the Dell downloads.
On a reinstall we see people with audio problems caused by failing to install the Intel motherboard chipset drivers which MUST be installed BEFORE installing the sound drivers. The drivers on the Dell downloads are valid and you should be using the Dell supplied drivers and not what Windows installs or even the Retail vendor IDT drivers (SigmaTel is not called IDT). I do a lot of support in the Sound hardware section and from past posts on the sound this is what we have found.
On an install/reinstall the correct and required install sequence is (1) Install Windows (2) Install Dell Desktop System Software (3) Install chipset drivers (4) Install device drivers including video, Dell sound drivers, ethernet, etc.

I reinstalled Windows and found that if I enter my service tag on the drivers downloads page it gives me many more of the drivers I need, but when I searched for the Dell Desktop System Software, all I can find is one that is compatible only with Windows XP. I have Vista 32-bit. Thank you again for helping me, I have never done this before
