Russ2426,

I could find no information on a file called Shell323. If you have done a virus check and your computer is not infected the file may be associated with spyware. Download and run either Ad-aware from here and/or Spybot from here and remove all the suspect entries they find. Check online for updates before you run either program.

Shell32.dll is the dynamic link library with among other things contains the system used icons. Try start menu  programs  accessories  system tools  system information. Select tools from taskbar then system file checker. select the option to restore file then enter shell32.dll (NOT SHELL323). In the extract from or source file location (something like that...my memory isn't as good as it used to be) enter C:\windows\Options\Cabs and see if that works. If it doesn't then put your windows 98 disk in and enter :\win98. You will probably (OK not probably - definately) have to reboot since the shell32.dll is a system file and cannot be replaced without a reboot. Let me know if this works .... it should

Hope this helps
