Shutting down my computer

Everytime I shut down my computer, a box comes up and says "ending program" hpcmpmgr.exe and then you have to wait and then end the program. Does anyone know what this means, what could be causing it  and how do I fix it so it shuts down normal.

                                                                                         Thanks,

                                                                                            Margene

Thanks for the response.  Yes, I've tried that link several times.  Also got the same link from HP tech. support and did not have success.  See HP response bellow.  Has anyone deleted the folder called out in the message bellow and was this method safe and effective?

Hello Jay,

Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.  The information provided in your e-mail indicates that every time you shutdown your PC, you get an error message that "hpcmpmgr.exe not responding". I see that you have tried to download the fix for this issue, but were unable to do so.  The file hpcmpmger.exe which is the software solutions manager may sometimes create this type of error that you have mentioned in your e-mail. This file is inside the HPCoretech folder and is responsible for monitoring the software programs that are running. This has nothing to do with the functionality of your printer or its software.  To download the utility to disable this program, you can visit the Web site I have provided below. You have mentioned that you were unable to download this file. I have personally checked this Web site and downloaded this file. Both the Web site and the file are working. I suggest you try downloading it at some other time as the internet traffic may be high when you were downloading or the Web site may be down for upgradation.

NOTE: Clicking the link may give an error indicating it is invalid. If this occurs, copy the portion of the address on the remaining line(s) and paste it at the end of the address showing in your browser until the complete address is displayed in the Address box. If you are still not able to download the file, you can resolve this issue by deleting the HPCortech folder. Based on my experience deleting this folder does not effect the functionality of the printer and in many cases the issue has been successfully resolved after deleting this folder.  Please follow the steps that I have listed below to do so.

1. Double-click My Computer on desktop.

2. Select and double-click the C: drive in your computer.

3. Locate the Program Files folder and double-click to open it.

4. Select HP folder and double-click to open it.

5. Locate HPCoretech folder and then delete this folder.

I want to be sure the steps I have provided resolve the issue. If the issue continues, please reply to this message with the results. We will be glad to assist you further.

Sincerely,

Rajesh

I had no problem downloading the executable.  Therefore I did not try to delete the folder in question.

Sorry.

Had the same problem.  Here's a much easier solution to shutting down "hpcmpmgr.exe".  Just change the extension ".exe" to something else (like your initials) and the executable file will no longer operate.  To find the file, use the "Search" feature in My Computer or Windows Explorer.  Mine was in the folder:  C:\Program Files\HP\hpcoretech\

If your "view extension" feature is turned off, i.e. you can't see the extention, Click on TOOLS>>FOLDER OPTIONS>>VIEW and then uncheck the box "hide extensions for known file types".  Go back to your file "hpcmpmgr.exe" and change the extension to "hpcmpmgr.xxx".  The fix will occur after the next startup or reboot.

It would be best to go back and recheck the box "hide extensions..." as it will make it less likely to screw up the operation and function of files if you change their names, since files are associated with certain apps by their extensions.
