Side bar on desk top

I hope I can explain this so you will understand what my problem is. On my desktop I have my programs listed down the left side of my screen. My desktop covered the whole screen until a few days ago when my problem began. Now I have a sidebar on the left side. When I hover the curser over a listed program the sidebar gives me the following:

Folder tasks

   Rename This Item

   Delete this item

Other Places

   My Documents

   Shared Documents

   My network programs

Details

   Shows the name of the program I

   am hovering over.

I want to get rid of this sidebar. I have restored and have gotten rid of it for awhile and then it comes back again. What am I doing wrong?  I hope you understand what I mean and can help me.  Leny:womansad:
