Sigmatel HD audio driver for XP

People,

I have installed XP on my Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop. I have found all the drivers for all the hardwares (nvidia, webcam, etc). But I cannot find a valid driver for the HD 2.0 audio installed on my laptop.

I googled and found a good driver (dell) on the following forum
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=141045

But whenever I try to install. My computer restarts and then it says that "The system does not support the driver"

Is it because I have bluetooth Hands free as the device in the sound settings???

Can you please suggest what should I do? Thanks in advance.

Have you tried the Vista driver? Some members are reporting that some Vista drivers will install in XP.

Also your system specs say it is an Intel sound chip, not Sigmatel, but after reading some more, this technology can be licensed to anyone, so it still could be licensed to Sigmatel.

Audio

Audio type  -  two-channel high-definition stereo

Audio controller  -  Intel HDA Azalia

Stereo conversion  -  24-bit (analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog)

Interfaces:       Internal  -  Intel High Definition Audio

Check device manager is there any other drivers missing??

I've seen specs on some current production Intel motherboards and they state "Sigma Tel" sound, so I would assume the sound chip is from Sigma Tel, not Intel.

However, there are some current models that were delivered with Vista and there are only limited XP software (no sound drivers) listed on the Dell Downloads for those models.

I can't say for sure, but the Sigma Tel for some earlier models MAY work - but I have no responsibility if someone uses one and it doesn't work and causes other problems.  Use at your own risk.

If you didn't install the HD audio update for XPSP2 it will not install.

I recommend doing a manual install by using the device manager

Hydralisk

Can you please tell me how do I install the update for HD audio MANUALLY???
using the device manager? I mean i can install it easily using the windows update through the yellow icon in my tray since I have set automatic updates to notify me on updates to be downloaded and installed.

I guess my HD audio is not Intel, since in my Vista install, its Sigmatel.

Update

I checked the HD audio hardware using PC wizard. It says the audio driver is "Intel HD audio" and the manufacturer is Sigmatel.

I have tried every possible thing. But can't get my audio driver to be installed. Everytime I get the message - "the system does not support the driver you trying to install"

Any help? Also Can I know how can I install the HD audio update manually using device manager?

Thanks in advance!

Ppl,

The Sigmatel HD audio driver is now installed and I am Happy :). Actaully as suggested earlier in this thread, I checked the device manager, there was a driver missing for PCI Bus, after it was installed the HD audio driver also got installed.

But there is just one driver still missing, and I can't find it.
"Modem device for HD audio but device"

also if anybody knows from where i can get Quickset application for XP pro, it would be really helpful

Also I am not getting any update installed using the Automatic updates. They always fail to install. I can install them manually though from the microsoft site. Any suggestions?

Thanks for all the help!
