Sims 2 Installation Issues

Hi:

I bought a XPS Gen 4 in order to play the Sims 2.  My systems exceeds all of the games minimum hardware requirements and all of my drivers have been updated.  I am running XP sp2.

The game itself has 4 cds that need to load on installation.  I can load the 1st cd no problem, upon prompt of the 2nd cd I load it, the cd spins for a bit then ....... nothing.

I get no error message or anything.

I've returned the software and got a replacement and the same thing.  I've taken it to a friend and they loaded it to their machine with no problems.  I've even plugged in an external cd player and tried installing it that way and the same issue.

Does anybody have any suggestions of what this could be?  I've loaded other software without issue.

Thanks,

UO

There have been several Sims loading issues posted.  Have you scanned the Gaming forum section?

One issue that someone brought up is the copy protect on the Sims, and the CD/DVD burning software can cause it not to install.  I can't confirm that, it's just what was posted on one of the Sims posts.  Someone suggested temporarily uninstalling the CD burning software (then restart Windows) and then install the Sims.  After it's installed reinstall the CD burning software.  Another post suggested uninstalling the UDF formatting program (e.g. Sonic DLA, Roxio Drag to Disc, Nero InCd) as that may be the culprit.

Also, try this as well.  Some software have problems loading if you have the anti virus software on.  Temporally turn it off, try to install the game, than turn the anti virus software back on...Just a thought

Hi

Have you figured out your sims 2 installation issues?  I'm having the same problem, mine gives me a transfer error at 21%.  I've spent 4 calls to EA Games with no luck, they sent me to Dell.  I've tried copy all 4 disks to the hard drive, no change.  Tried installing in safe mode....no change.  My antivirus is off.  I'm interested in your luck.

Thanks, Bill

Hi Bill:

This is very untechnical and I laughed when someone suggested it, but after about 20 attempts the other way I tried it and the silly game loaded right up.  Antivirus is off, load first disc, pay attention to the direction the lettering is facing when you load it.  Wait for the pre-read to finish (green light off) then click okay.  Go thru the same procedure with each disc facing the exact same way and the pre-read finishes before clicking ok.

I hope this helps you.
