The version that I have is a Microsoft OEM version (that was the only version of Media Center released).  It is not for Dell specifically, but it isn't labeled or associated with any other manufacturer either.

I can try a test on another machine to see if Product key is linked to a specific disc set, but I hoped someone would know the answer without me having to do that.  I'm not cheating Microsoft or Dell in this; I've bought 2 copies of the software and have 2 legal product keys.

Thanks for your help.  I'll consult FAQ's and see what it has to offer -- maybe that would be better for me.

If the other system is a Dell, you should be able to use that install disc . . or you can get a replacement install disc by looking in the FAQ's at the top of this forum page

That should work ok . . when you are asked for the Procuct Key, use the one on the side of the tower . . I'd still go for the Dell discs for any future use

Hmmmm The dell discs are basically oem discs

I used my sisters MCE disc to install an oem xp professional on my computer, but then forgot to format the drive and stuff for dell media direct.

I have also used a dell oem xp home disc to install xp home on an emachine with its code on the back of the emachine and it worked.

Sounds like a plan . .

It looks like it might work then.  But to play it safe I think I will use a different hard drive and keep info intact on the Dell disc until I complete a successful installation.

Thanks for the help.
