Sonic Issues and DVD Burning from MC: Help!
So overall I am very pleased with the XPS 400 with MC 2005. However, I am having a few issues that are keeping me from enjoying the experience 100%. Here they are:
1. On startup I keep getting an update message from Sonic Advanced Decoders. This is annoying; however, rather than uninstalling the install shield I would prefer to actually fix the issue and install the lastest version.
2. When I try and open Roxio Creator (which came installed on my machine, but I did not receive a CD with the software on it), I recieve a similar issue. Asking for the file BMPLE.msi. But since I do not have the install disk or this file anywhere on my system there is nothing I can do.
3. When I try and open CinePlayer (also came installed on my system, but I never recieved a disk for it), I just a blank screen. I beleive the software loaded and is "invisible" because even though it looks like I am lookign at my desktop if I position the mouse correct I get tooltips popping up (ie. as if buttons were below them)
4. Last but not least, and I think this ties back to the sonic encoders and decoders not working correctly. When I am in MC and trying to burn a TV show to DVD it reaches 1% and then fails, stating there was an error. I did a bit of research on this and it seems to tie back to the sonic encoders. Again, I am assuming the encoders and decoders were installed on my system at some point (i did a sweep when I first received my system and think that I accidently erased one of the sonic programs not realizing what it was)
Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks!

So I don't know if this solved the Roxio and CinePlayer issues as well (I will check over the weekend), but this definitly solved the Sonic updating and media center burning a DVD issue. So anyway, here is what you should try:
1. Locate your Win install CD.
2. Put it into your CD/DVD drive, and if nothing starts up automatically go to my computer, select the drive, and run setup.exe.
3. You will now get a screen that shows a few options, one being reinstall/install windows, and a few down one should read "install optional component" or something similar. This is the one we are interested in.
4. Select this and scroll down until you see the Sonic encoders and decoders. If it isn't checked, check it and hit next, watch it install and you are good to go.
5. If it is already checked, uncheck and hit next (this is will uninstall it, which is ok since it is broken anyway). Once the uninstall is finished go back into setup and back into the "install optional components" and check the sonic box.
6. This will reinstall the sonic encoders and decoders and you should now have no problem burning a DVD from MC.
Enjoy!
