Start up Programs pop up

Hello,

When I installed Vista over XP I went into my start up programs and took some off the list.  Well, ever since then I have been getting a pop up at the bottom of my screen, informing me that some programs were taken off this list, etc.  I understood that this pop up was supposed to stop showing up eventually but I get it all the time.  Does anyone know how to shut this pop up off?  Thanks for any info.

Google for "Disable Balloon Tips". I think this might work for you.

Just click on the icon it shows you, and then go to Run Block programs, then go to System Configuration Utillity, the check the option to don't show the message again, then OK, check here

Thanks, GioAguilar, I will do that but believe it or not, right now I'm waiting for the dog-gone pop up to show up, you might know.  ;-)

Jerry,

Please post your results, because I have the same problem and am also still waiting for that derned popup to show itself again. Who  knows - maybe it really has gone away on its own. :smileysurprised:

Good luck, and thanks!

Yes, I will post.  After restarting the system I clicked on it but it just disappeared.  I'll try again. :-)

It will work, I've used a lot of times, the only reason it may come back, is if you edit the list again, so you just have to do the same

Whoops, I misread the instructions and clicked on the bubble instead of the icon.  Did click the icon and followed procedure.  Now, if I do not get back with you, that means that I am not getting any more pop ups for this.  Honestly, I will.  If I get the pop up, I will get back with you.  I am a person of my word so if days go by without your hearing from me, the pop up no longer appears.  Thank you very much for the help.

Glad to hear your news, Jerry.

I still haven't seen the balloon and icon since I last posted, and I just rebooted. I did get the box about running msconfig, which I'm used to from XP. So I'm guessing I'm in the clear, as well. At least I now know what to do if/when I make further changes there. Thanks for the help! :-D

You may also use Windows defender to disable startup programs.  I don't think that you will get those popups.

Windows Defender is available from the Control Panel.

To start:

  • Click on the Vista start Button, enter "Defender" in the Search box and press
  • In Windows Defender, click on the Tools option then click Software Explorer
  • In category, select Startup Programs (if not selected)
  • Select the program you wish to disable and click on the Disable button in the lower right corner of the window.

Frank,
probably you're rigth, probably I am :smileytongue:
I never used that one, but I read on a forum (that I couldn't find) for that.

Something for sure, there are a lot of ways to make the same thing on a computer...

Frank,
As I remember WinDefender also shows the pop up, and the process to make it dissapear is diferent, but I ain't quiet sure.

I use RegCleaner it removes the entries from the registry, and it doesn't show the items disabled on the MSCONFIG. It doesn't shows the pop up, but some items are not removed, so I use MSCONFIG just for a few.

This thread has become a little to follow, at least for me, but Google for a program named AutoRuns.  It's like msconfig on steroids, and it from a trusted source, SysInternals.

Hi Gio,

I have disabled a few programs using Windows Defender (from an Admin account) and did not get any popups.

I can't remember if I had UAC on or off at the time but it's on since then and I'm still not getting any popup.

I think that the popup is related to MSconfig itself trying to display some sort of message about the disabled statup programs.
