Startup Error
I went on a deleting binge a while ago so that I could run disk defragmenter on my computer, and deleted a file that was needed so my computer could run (I thought I knew what I was doing, but then I messed up.) I've updated my OS (to system pack 2) since I got my computer, so I need to know how to fix it without loosing ALL of my files.
Is it possible, or would I be best just buying a bundle of CDs and loading it back on?

If the missing file is a Windows system file you may be able to replace it using System File Checker. Go to Start|Run, enter sfc /scannow and click OK. There is a space before the /scannow. You may be prompted to insert your Windows XP CD (and it may require a slipstreamed CD with all of XP through SP2 in order to run to completion).
