Stubborn apostrophe won't show!

Question

How can I get my system to recognize the apostrophe key with a single hit? My apostrophe (') won't show unless I type in another character, hit space bar or enter key. This occurs in all software programs - word processing, spreadsheet, email and CAD. At first this was a nuisance problem I thought I could ignore, but in CAD programs it makes it impossible to use this character which is important for representing Feet. Any attempt to hit space bar, enter key or make a double apostrophe entry then backspace always nullifies the CAD command.

May be a stupid question, but is your keyboard layout set to US Standard in Control Panel (assuming you're in the US).

If it's set to US International that might explain it.

The notebook is set to US standards. Its been suggested that I reinstall Windows XP, but I'd like to that to be my last alternative.

Ahh - was thinking you had a desktop but just saw the tiny E1505 in the tag.   I'm not very familiar with laptops, but I do know the keyboard settings can be a bit fussy. Might want to try the Laptop General Hardware forum.  Message Edited by Alexandra_P on 04-06-2008 01:28 PM
