System Restore and Windows Update
Hi, I have a Dell E520 running Vista Home Basic with 2GB of RAM.
Problem 1. When I try to run System Restore, I get this message: "The System Restore Wizard is already running. This program will now exit."
Problem 2. When I try to run Windows Update, the computer freezes (white screen).
From doing web searches, I know that these problems have been encountered by other users, but I cannot find definitive solutions anywhere. I have reinstalled Vista, etc., and eventually run into the same problem. Any help here is greatly appreciated.

I have a Studio 1535 but have had a similar issue with your problem #1. After an unsuccesful windows update I had to use system restore. I was new to the program and didn't realize how long it took to start. I would start the program and when it looked like nothing was happening, I would get impatient and click system restore again, only to be told it was already running, even though it looked like nothing was happening. I would suggest you start the system restore and then give it a good ten minuets to do its thing behind the scene before you bail.

After installing the operating system, remember to go to drivers and downloads, enter your service tag(DO NOT POST SERVICE TAG here or your post will get deleted, since it contains your personal information), and install these drivers in this order.
Desktop System Software or Notebook System Software
Chipset or SMBus driver
Processor Driver (if applicable)
Video
Audio (sound)
Input Drivers (keyboard/mouse)
Modem
Network Card
After a clean install, I've had it happen where Windows Updates didn't work. I had to do what is suggested below to get them to work again.
Windows Updates fail to install
