System can't read file c:\windows\system32\config\software on boot
After moving my computer to another room I got this error when turning the computer on. The computer will not boot at all, even in safe mode. After checking to make sure no cables were loose, I tried a fix I found online copying files with the repair console, but it failed. I also tried to perform a repair installation of windows, but when I put in my Dell windows installation disk as well as an installation disk from another computer the system would not let me choose the repair option. I've done a repair installation before on other computers without any problems, and I don't know why it won't work here. Can anyone help me out with this?
If there is no way for me fix the computer without losing data, is there a way to transfer files from this HDD to one in my other computer?
Thanks

A repair reinstall would have done nothing to correct a corrupted registry. Your best bet for saving data is to install the hard disk in your second computer and copy the data to removable media there.

Grossick,
After copying your data off using the method Denny recommends, you can try this procedure to repair a corrupt registry: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307545
Print out the instructions. Follow them precisely. If you have not attempted a repair install or clean install of Windows, you may be able to revive your system to a recent restore point using this procedure.
