T7400 with dual E5450 3.0 GHz Xeon processors and Windows 10 64 bit

Hello everyone,

I am wondering if anyone has tried this. I am looking to buy a refurbished version of this computer and would like to know if it is compatible with Windows 10 64 bit and Windows Server 2012 R2.

I currently have an aging Precision 670 that is running Windows Server 2012 that I can not move higher than that version due to the required new instruction sets of older processors that are 64 bit. Will this machine have the same problem or will it work okay with these operating systems?

The model I am looking at is the T7400 with dual E5450 3.0 GHz Xeon processors installed and 8 gb of ram.

Any help you can provide on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

Regards

Bill

Hello!  So i'm not an expert with Servers but from what information I got, Dell didn't support this machine past Windows Vista, which would be Windows Server 2012 (not R2 sadly).  Its possible you can fiddle with it to get it to work, but finding drivers etc., may be difficult if not impossible.

Having owned (note the past tense) I can see no reason you will  have any problems.  Neither should drivers be a problem, either Microsoft or the device manufacture will probably have them.  Dell's lack of support is meaningless.  Most of my Dell systems are running with different OSs than the original.

A few successful installs here but looks like there were some issues also...

Just saw this, and don't know if you're still looking.  Windows 10 will work fine.  I ran it on my T7400 with no issues.
