The work-a-round for OE error message
Karen's helpful posting about the OE Error Message: " OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail. "
A:The problem is caused by the installing of Service Pack 1 for
Windows XP. To work around this issue, use the following steps.
1.Open Outlook Express.
2.Click on tools/options/security and uncheck "Do Not Allow Attachments To Be" .........
3.Close O.E and reboot the system.
My question: Is removing unsafe attachments just a fluke of Service Pack 1? Isn't that removal for our protection? If we do the work-a-round, doesn't that open us up for something malicious?
Thanks.

The "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" has always been a part of OE6. SP1 to OE6 enabled it by default. If you disable it you are only at risk if you are not running an antivirus program with updated signatures which scans incoming email.
