Trouble with https site
I am not able to load an https site https:/utdirect.utexas.edu/utdirect I do not have any difficulty loading any other secure websites. The page seems to try to load but doesn't. I am running 98se and have a cable internet connection. I had a friend who is an IT specialist try to figure out the problem but after 2 hours gave up. He was able to use my internet connection on his laptop and the site loaded immediately. I talked to U Texas IT dept and we tried spyblaster and adaware. I have also uninstalled my Norton Internet security and tried to load the page with no luck. Any suggestions??? I am getting ready to upgrade to Win xp home edition to see if that will solve the issue. I really don't want to reformat my harddrive and start over. I have an XPS T-500 with 256 RAM

Have you installed the latest microsoft patch KB832894 (called Q832894 in Add/Remove Programs) for Internet Explorer? There have been some reports that it has interfered with some secure HTTPS sites. Has your friends laptop got the same patch installed? The only solution I know at the moment is to uninstall the patch and/or wait for the website to update. If you uninstall it just remember to keep a close eye on your e-mails and not follow any dubious links which may ask you for personal security information.

I did have this patch installed. I removed it but the website still does not load. I have even tried Netscape to load this page but it doesn't work either.

from their website:
Browser Requirements
The UT EID System requires Netscape 2.02 or higher with Javascript and cookies enabled. We strongly recommend that you use current generation browsers whenever possible.
Netscape 6.2 and higher
Internet Explorer 5.5 and higher
UT Austin, students, faculty and staff can download updated browser versions from the Bevoware download site.
Visitors who are not students, faculty, or staff can download the latest versions of these browsers from Microsoft or Netscape.
contact them: http://www.utexas.edu/its/help/forms/mailform.html
good luck, I would assume that you probably have a java incompatibility if I was to guess.(unless you didn't have cookies enabled or you, your ISP, or they weren't blocking your secure request.)
