Trusted Drive Manager memory issue

Hello,

I have a new Dell E4620 laptop with Win7 64bit Pro and 4GB RAM installed.

I connected a SATA HD (Seagate Momentus, 320GB) to this laptop via a USB-SATA adapter.

When I connect the HD, the TDM consumes all available RAM to the point where the system slows to a crawl. The internal laptop HD won't stop accessing and my free RAM goes from 2.5GB free to 0 free.

I've tried killing the process but it just comes back. I've tried disabling TPM Base Service but that had no affect.

I've also tried to turn off the TPM via this below but I get a message here stating "Compatible TPM cannot be found".

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc749022(v=ws.10).aspx#BKMK_S2

Does anyone know how I can either stop/uninstall this service or at least prevent it from consuming all memory? This is not usable as is.

Thank you,

-Steve

Hi ryderse,

Welcome to the Dell Community.

Please try to disable 2 services:-

1. The TDM service is used for drive encryption which slows the performance of the internal drive.  Below are instructions on how to disable the service. Once the service is disabled it will remain disabled until the service status is changed manually.

•    Right click on Computer and select Manage

•    Turn down Services and Applications arrow and select Services

•    Scroll down to TDM Services and right click on select properties

•    Service Status select stop

•    Change start type: Disabled and Apply

•    Close all open windows and application

•    Restart system

2. The Indexing Services is a small program that hogs HUGE amounts of RAM

•    Right click on Computer and select Manage

•    Turn down Services and Applications arrow and select Services

•    Select Indexing Services and right click on select properties; Service Status select stop

•    Change start type: Disabled and Apply

•    Close all open windows and application

•    Restart system

Please run some virus and malware scans on the computer.

Please try these steps and let me know of the outcome

Glad to be of assistance

Thanks,

Manpreet

Thanks. I stopped this TDM Service but it kept re-starting. It wasn't until I disabled it, then stopped it and then rebooted did it finally clear up this issue.

The Indexing service was not running at all.

Thanks again!

Is TPM the same as TDM?  I disabled tpm because i don't have a tdm listed.

Thanks!

Hi Manpreet,

I need the same answer that you gave to Ryderse but my problem is different. Mi problem is that my Win7Pro operating system is in Italian and I can just reach the point "Turn down Services and Applications arrow and select Services" of your explaination then, if I want to scroll down to TDM Services, I can't find them, just because there are too many items and I don't know which is the italian name of the "TDM Services" in my operating system version.

Does anybody know what's the italian name of these "TDM Services" in Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1 in my DeLL Precision T5400 Workstation? I admit that my English is very very bad, yes, I know, forgive me. Thank you.
