Trying to identify proper drivers

Dell Inspirion N7110.  64 bit Windows Home Premium downloaded from Dell site.  The computer will not connect to the Internet so all drivers have to be downloaded to another computer and copied to the sick computer. The following items on the device manager page are adorned with yellow explanation points..

Ethernet Controller

PCI\Ven_10EC&Dev8136 & SUBSYS_04D81028&REV_05

                                               &SUBSYS_04D81028

                                               &CC_20000

                                               &CC_0200

NETWORK CONTOLLER

PCI\ VEN-8086&DEN_008A&SUBSYS-53258086&REV_34

                ditto without the rev

                                                    &cc028000

                                                     &CCO280

SM BUS CONTROLLER

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C22&SUBSYS_04D81028&REV_05

   ditto without the rev

                                                                  & CC_00050

                                                                  $CC_0C05

UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS (USB)CONTROLLER

PCI\VEN_1033

There is also an explanation point by PCI Simple Communications Controller, but I understand from the description that is now not necessary

I am trying to determine what drivers I need to download and whether I will need special software to install them. Self installing drivers are a problem (if they do really self install) because the drivers need to be downloaded on a different computer.  I assume/hope that when I get connected to the Internet again, life will be more simple.

Inspirion N7110 hard disk failure. I replaced HD, however, recovery disks did not complete.  On final restart, Windows failed to start.  As an alternate, I installed an old unused XP operating system and Windows 7 update.  Windows 7 (6.1) will not find the internet with message that a Network Adapter is needed.  I tried to install drivers from the driver disk that came with the computer but received message that software was not compatible (with the operating system I installed, I guess) .  Any help  in either (1) making the recovery software work or (2) installing a driver  for the network adapter for the alternate windows 7 installed would be appreciated.  Details of the troubleshoot report on trying to start windows re-installed the original software from the recovery disk are:  Problem signature 1--l.1.7600.16385; problem signature 2 is the same; problem signature 3 is "Unknown"; problem signature 4 is "1182";  problem signature 5 is AutoFailover; problem signature 6 is "1"; problem signature 7 is FailureDuringSetup.  OSVersion is 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1; local ID 1033.   I don't know what any of that means and obviously, I can not update windows until I can connect to the Internet

It sounds like maybe you installed Windows 7 32 Bit opposed to Windows 7 64 Bit. Follow the instructions here to download and prepare Windows 7 64 Bit installation media:

http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/download-microsoft-windows-and-office/download-microsoft-windows/windows-7-sp1-iso-download/

See here fore more details:

See also my guide/A Clean Install of Windows:

This will go through the install step by step.

Provide the hardware IDs if you need help with installing drivers:

One of the drivers that I believe I need says that it will self install on download.  How do I keep it from doing that, since the computer that I will download it on is not the computer that needs to be fixed. (Realtek RTL8111E Gigabit Ethernet Controller Driver)

You are missing (or did not install first) the Chipset drivers which must be installed first before all other drivers or the other drivers do not install correctly. The System Software Utility also must be installed first along with the chipset. Open the Device manager and make a note of all the hardware models so you can download the correct drivers. There will be more drivers than you need in the available drivers list. Do not install the ones for hardware you don't have. I see diff chipset drivers in the list and I don't know which one you need. See if entering your service tag on the download page helps. Drivers are always downloaded, not installed automatically.

Mention the exact version of Windows--Windows 7 rather than just Home Premium.
