Thanks for replying to my question. The Twain driver is for a small digital camera. Yes I do get the error when I insert the cd for the camera. I have also tried to go on the disk and install the driver. I also received an error message. I was able to retrieve the software. But I don't really care for that anyways. I also have tried to use the wizard, but it can't find my driver, even on the internet. The driver is autorun.EXE. Does this mean anything? There wasn't any .INF on the cd.
Forgot something. My picture cd automatically runs. Is this an autorun, or autoplay? Or are these things the same thing? If my picture cd runs does that mean my autorun is fine?
The error you received usually means registry entries for the application already exist.
I assume you receive the error when you insert the appliciation CD in your CD or DVD drive. Am I correct? Just exactly what type of Twain driver are you trying to install? I can't imagine XP Media Center needing any kind of Twain driver.
Usually, if Autorun gives an error, you can manually start the setup by opening the Autorun.inf file with Notepad. Find the file name and location it is trying to execute; i.e., setup. Click on Start|Run. Type d:\setup (or whatever the CD drive letter,subdirectory, and file name is) and click OK.
Autorun.exe is an application (program) that runs automatically. Autorun.inf automatically loads and executes one or more programs or instructions. Autoplay basically means that when a CD or DVD is inserted the drive automatically looks for an executable instruction such as an autorun.exe, an autorun.inf, music track, or video. Since your picture CD runs, your autoplay is fine. However, your camera CD's autorun.exe is having a problem executing successfully.
Now, back to the problem. Please give make and model of camera and how it attaches to your computer (USB, Firewire, etc.).
It is a Vivtar Vivicam 35, USB, it was only 20$ just a cheapy. It says it is suppose to download a Twain driver and Arcosfot software.
Oh yeah, yesterday I tried to download a program off the internet for work, and I recieved something that says "C:\documents and settings..........\skypesetup[1].exe is not valid with win32 application" Does this have any connection to my other problem, or is this a different problem? I am running OS XP Media Center on a Dimension. If that helps in your efforts.

Driverguide.com requires that you login. Just login as drivers. Password is all . The Driverguide member who uploaded this from his original Vivicam 35 CD says it is supposed to work with Windows XP. He is correct that the driver is not on Vivitar's web site. I looked. Download the driver to a folder on your hard drive. Then unzip it to that same folder. If you don't have Winzip you can download it from www.download.com. Look for a setup program such as setup.exe or install.exe. Once the driver is loaded, you should be able to access it through Windows XP Movie Maker or the Scanner and Camera Wizard.
The Arcsoft software on your CD can probably be loaded separately. Skip that autorun junk. Right click on Start. Left click on Explore. Navigate to your CD drive. Look through the folders for one named Software or Arcsoft. In that folder look for setup.exe or install.exe. The Arcsoft software is worth the $20 bucks you paid for the camera.
Incidentally, most USB cameras are seen as storage devices by Windows XP. The Vivicam 35 apparently is not. That is why it requires a Twain driver.
that is so funny you say that, they have given me the run a round. But they just called like 20 mins ago and finally sent me (after 5 tries) a zip file (driver). But now I am trying to get that winzip. Haven't used that in years..lol.
Tony quick question. I went to the downloads site you gave me and was about to download winzip, when I saw user feedback and they said to get winrar instead. What do you think? Didn't winzip use to be free?
Yeah I think it is. By the way Vivtar stated that they had a problem with alot of the cd's with that camera. lol It only took me 8 times of talking to them for them to tell me that.
Brian says that he purchased his camera at Wal-Mart. Tried to get it to work on 4 Windows XP computers with no luck. Got runaround from Vivitar. Finally got Vivitar support tech to send him the driver he uploaded to Driverguide. He says it works great on his Windows XP. Incidentally, he uploaded it to Driverguide today at 5:41 CST. Talk about luck.
The Winzip you download will be an evaluation version. Adequate for almost all needs. Winzip encourages you to purchase their product after evaluating it. Winrar is similar to Winzip. Different strokes for different folks. Whichever one you wish to use is fine.
