I am having a similiar problem. When trying to hook up a printer, I get the error message that I am missing the USB driver. I have tryed to download the driver from Dell with no success. Can anyone tell me where to get this download?

Think about 'plug-and-play' again which is the ability of your dell computer to automatically configure devices. It would also be a good idea to note that plug and play provides automatic configuration, installation and compatibility with existing hardware if the operating system, BIOS and all devices are plug and play compliant.
Your new device failing installation: I would recommend that you should review your device documentation or contact the manufacturer directly for further support information. If your new device is not being recognized, then take it that a plug and play board may not automatically configure when added if the default configuration conflicts with other devices. To try to resolve this problem, use Windows xp device Manager to deselect the automatic settings for the board and choose a basic configuration that does not cause a resource conflict. You can also use the option at computer setup to reconfigure or disable devices to resolve conflict. Use caution when at computer setup.....some settings if not performed correctly might make your dell computer unusable.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I thought what he said is that his USB ports are not recognizing ANYthing. I have same problem with my venerable and reliable Inspiron 8200, running XP Service Pack 3. The integrated USB1 ports simply quit. Had not added any new hardware, peripherals, or software. System configuration had been unchanged for long time. Computer just stopped recognizing any/all USB items that were attached. Device Manager shows ports as existing, but with nothing attached. Nothing inserted/reinserted into the ports is recognized. I've done all the recommended troubleshooting/diagnostics; still nothing. I put the computer into a Dell docking station; the ports on docking station also do not recognize anything. I installed a USB2 PC card with two ports (Belkin) into computer; it works. But the computer's own ports are still dead. I need those ports.

No where in these posts does it tell you how to get the recognition at usb portes if Devise Manager does not work.
All known drivers are up to date on Dell. Vista is up to date. Iomega i has been updated completely. Losing the information on my external hard drive because dell does not have a fix for their usb driver problems is not very good sales pitch for Dell products or their attention to service.

I'm having the same problem on my Inspiron 5100. Neither the USB nor the ethernet ports are recognizing anything. Spent hours on the phone with a Dell tech who couldn't solve the problem. Bought DriverCure. Also did not "cure" the problem. May have to resort to bringing in a professional as everything is trapped on my laptop at the moment.

I recently reinstalled XP on my Dimension 5150 desktop. The USB hard drive connected to the computer becomes very slow in writing. To copy a 1 Gb file it takes > 50 minutes. The same hard drive works with other computers takes about 3 minutes to write the 1 Gb file. I guess it is because the USB 2.0 drive was not properly installed. But I could not find the driver.
The Device Manager shows that the driver is installed, but some third-party software suggested that the driver needs to update.
Where can I find the driver?
Thanks.
