Updates from Microsoft won't download
I have been unable for over a month to download any Microsoft updates (manually or automatically). What is strange about this is I can download updates etc from any other product.
Anyone have a solution to this problem?
I consulted Microsoft - got a list of things to do (mostly having to do w cookies) - I followed all three of their suggestions - emailed them back that it did not work & never heard back from them.
This is getting very frustrating!

Do a search for Windows Update.log (it's in C:\Windows) on your system. See what errors are listed for the last attempt you made at installing Windows Updates and post them here.

I've tried it both ways - I usually use express - but once that failed multiple times - I tried custom.
Neither works

There isn't a lot in that log that helps, but there is one item that might. See the file registration commands in the last post by harryhoudini in this thread. It's a guess, but it might help.

Hey - I recognize something here - I also had used Norton Removal tool SymNRT
I however don't understand how to make a BAT file to register the following:
regsvr32 oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
regsvr32 msxml.dll
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll
Is this what I need to do?
I am hearing more & more bad things about Norton - I switched to Panda & find it works much better....but obviously when I deleted Norton w their tool it messed up my system.

You don't need a batch file. Simply go to Start|Run, enter cmd and click OK. At the command prompt enter those commands, one at a time. After each one you should see a message confirming that the file has been registered.
