It'll run 7 Pro just fine - just don't count on running very demanding apps in virtual mode given the low amount of RAM.

Yes it will run Windows 7 fine follow the instructions here for best results:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/f/3524/t/19480753.aspx
If planning to use XP mode it is advisable to upgrade the RAM to 4 or 8 GB (requires the 64 bit Windows 7 OS to use all the RAM): http://www.crucial.com/upgrade/Dell-memory/Latitude/Latitude+D630-upgrades.html
Run the Intel Processor Identification utility to check if your CPU is 64 bit compatible (likely this system will be): http://www.intel.com/support/processors/tools/piu/sb/CS-014921.htm
