Using Windows Media Player Instead of Dell Media Direct

Hi,

I have a new 1720 laptop with Dell Media Direct. This is fine, but if I try and play a DVD with Windows media player, the application automatically closes and launches Dell Media Direct.

Can anyone tell me how I can set up my laptop so that I can choose to use Windows Media Player?

Also, if I try to try to play the DVD with the Interactual application, it complains of "Error PL4014:Playback failed" stating that the audio driver may not be fully compatible with DirectX.

I have upgraded the audio driver with the latest one from the Dell website for my laptop but could this be because of interference from DELL Media Direct product?

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi,

Thanks for your kind response - the problem is not one of which "default" application is being used.

Even if I launch Windows Media Player manually or right click on the DVD and select "Play with Windows Media Player", then Windows Media player launches briefly, closes down and DELL media Direct takes over.

Therefore there seems no way to choose to use WMP instead of the DELL direct.

Go to the start menu, go to the Default options. Then go to the Auto play settings, and set the Ask everytime.

Not sure about the message you receive, I'll check and post back

I have no problems with my E1505, I choose which one I want to use... I don't have it right now, but I'll check to see if there's an option on Media Direct to tstop that.

Hi,

As I am in the first 30 days of purchase, I found out that DELL would support a software issue.

They solved it by downloading a new codec - google on "klite".

This solved the problem with WMP and also the sound issue on the Interactual player.

Everything works now.
