Vista Business Edition Encrypted Filing System Problem

Hi All, My problem is this:

I want to run EFS on Vista Business Edition 32 Bit and can encrypt files ok but prefer to save my encryption key to a smart card located in the fitted Reader on my XPS M1330 and not save it in a Vista File on the Laptop because that seems to defeat the point of encrypting the files.

Problem is that although my Smart Card Reader is found and brings up the SD Card when inserted, Vista gives me the message " Cannot find a Smart Card Reader" when I click to save the Encryption Certificate on an SD Card. I have tried using a seperate Card Reader connected by USB but with the same problem.
