Vista System not allowing Itunes to function? - Help Please

Having returned from a two week holiday plugged back in the desktop and off we went, next morning my daughter tells me Itunes won't work, we can't download a new version or repair existing or do anything I Tunes related.

We can get on Apple's website but as soon as we go to the Itunes tab within seconds Internet Explorer closes and error windows appear saying Windows is searching for a solution but none can be found. Internet Explorer works fine on anything else

Could an update have made this occur? We have not added any software since coming home and whilst away desktop was fully off. Tried system resore but no difference still can't run Itunes, despite taking SR back to prior to the holiday

Tried uninstalling and then re-installing I tunes but can't do the re-install.

I admit to be a little thick re technological matters but despite a couple of days of searching on Internet can't find anybody who seems to have same problem - Any Ideas / Help gratefully appreciated
