Vista driver for HP Scanjet 4470

What's the story regarding HP's failure to provide a Vista driver for their Scanjet 4470c scanner?  Does anyone out there have a solution other than buying a new scanner?

Thanks,
George P.

If HP won't provide a driver (and they say that they will not) and the driver is not included with Vista (and it is not), then you don't have much choice do you?

To add, and it's not just HP, other vendors have not provided Vista drivers for some hardware.  It was the same with Windows XP, since there were new and different hardware and software requirements and many "old technology" devices did not meet the XP requirements.  It wasn't that the vendors didn't want to provide drivers, it was because they could not on the incompatible devices.

It seems a shame that the "old reliable" still works well, but that's what happens with computer technology.

I echo what Rebel9 said.

I had an HP 4400c scanner and opted for an All-in-One Canon MP460 copier/scanner/printer which has Vista drivers. For $108, it was worth the upgrade. Donated both my HP printer and the scanner for a tax writeoff.

Here is how to install software (printer) or drivers on Vista that are for XP,2000,NT4,98,95

Right click on the setup.exe file for the software/driver you are trying to install and select the compatibility Tab
Tick the "run this file in compatibility mode" box and then select XP, or whatever OS the software was designed for, in the drop down box, Tick "run as Administrator" if it is available, hit OK
Now double click this setup.exe file to execute the install process, hopefully all will go well and install the drivers/Software you need.

If the exe installs software for the device, or you have installed software only, you need to navigate to the program folder where it installed, then do the compatibility thing again for the program executable.

I do not guarantee all drivers or software to work but a large percentage do..

Good luck.

If the Software/ installer (exe file) is on CD, copy the entire contents of the CD to a folder in Vista, then do the compatibility thing.

There is no compatibility mode for .msi installers
16 bit programs will not run on Vista
