Vista import messages from old XP drive

Question

This is a new Vista computer -- Vostro 400.  We have the drive from the old XP computer in a drive enclosure.  I'm trying to get the Favorites from the old computer and can't seem to do it.  We've tried to import using IE7.0, and it doesn't like the shortcuts in the old Favorites folder.  We've tried to copy from G:\Documents and Settings\User\Favorites to the corresponding folder on C:, and even though the user is an Administrator, it says permission is denied.   How can we get the favorites off the old drive?   thx

How about a copy and paste? Select all the shortcuts under favorites, then press CTRL + C. Go to where you want them, then hit CTRL + V. Hope that works!

You need to take ownership of that folder... The easiest way is to use SafeMode...

Thanks James.  Copy and Paste is what I always do for XP, and it was driving me nuts that it wouldn't work on Vista.  Gio figured out, probably from my other post :smileywink:, that it was the permissions keeping me from copying them.   Thanks to both of you.

'Permissions' was going to be my next suggestion if C & P did not work for you. Glad Gio suggested it. :)
