Visual C+++ Runtime Library error

Error message from Visual C+++ Runtime Library 
 
Program C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE - application has requested Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way
 
When appears, it cannot access the internet nor "My Computer". 
 
Yet, I share this computer with my wife and she has full access.

If you have the  Google toolbar, uninstall it.  If that does not help try any others too.

I'm having the same problems.  It occured soon after I upgraded to Internet Explorer 7 (IE7).  I've since un-installed IE7 and reverted back to IE6 and the problems dissapeared.  In my case I noticed that the first user/account to log into the system was ok.  Thereafter any subsequent users got the problem.  If you've recently upgraded to IE7, chances are this it the cuase.  If you find another resolution can you let me know.

Your runtime error problem is fairly common in both IE6 and IE7, and is usually due to a browser extension or BHO (browser helper object) added to IE. A common culprit is the Google Toolbar, and you might try uninstalling it in Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs. Reboot, and see if the problem is gone. If it is, you should be able to re-install Google Toolbar from the Google site without the problem recurring.

If this doesn't solve your problem, in IE click on Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab, and uncheck the box next to "Enable third party browser extensions". Close IE, reboot. If this solves your problem, and you want to determine which extension was the culprit, then re-check that box, restart IE, and click on Tools>Manage Add-Ons..., and select in the dropdown box "Add-Ons currently loaded in Internet Explorer". Selectively disable each add-on, one by one, til you find the extension responsible. McAfee's Anti-Phishing helper object seems to be a common offender.

None of the above steps is irreversible, although you may lose some browser extension functions when temporarily disabled.

Your good, I re-installed IE7 to re-create the problem. As I did not have Google Search Bar installed, and I persued your 2nd solution suggestion. The problem resolved when I disabled the McAfee Anti-Phising BHO from a problematic user account.  Strange thing is that once I did this on 1 account it worked for all other users/accounts despite the Add-on being enabled in these accounts.  I've since however disabled on all user/accounts. Other point to mention is that the problem did not exist in my IE6 setup.

Thanks for the feedback. So many IE problems seem due to add-ons.
 
One of the nice features of IE7 is the ability to run it with all add-ons disabled: just right-click your IE7 desktop icon and select "Start Without Add-ons". If the problem is resolved, you know where to look for the culprit.
