WFP - Blocking Install of Intel Chipset Drivers

Well, the subject says it all -

When I install the Intel Chipset Drivers and reboot - I note a number of Windows File Protection messages in the event logs, informing me that WFP has restored drivers that where replaced.

Mostly these are the USB related SYS files, and always the PCI.SYS file.

[I can get around the USB related situation, by ensuring that all USB/Wake From USB
Power Management options in the BIOS are disabled - then install the chipset, then re-activate the desired USB features.]

Now, I would think that Intel's drivers would be the ideal drivers, why else would intel release a chipset installer, if they were not necessary?!?

[Another point of note is after installing the Network Drivers (Broadcom GBIC, and Intel Wireless) the first reboot logs an Event Error for DCOM "Shared Access" - indicating a lack of Local Launch permission - the windows default is no local launch- is this really a problem?]

So- how do I make Windows XP understand that the Intel drivers are what is needed? or- do I not need to concern myself with the messages?

Which hardware platform?

Was a more recent version of the chipset driver already installed automatically from the Windows XP (SP0/1/2) CD?

Did you obtain the chipset driver installation file from Dell Downloads for your system, or elsewhere?

Platform- well in this case it's a Precision M6300, the previous two instances where XPS M1710 machines -

Factory included WinXP SP2 CD - perhaps it's possible that Dell bundled the sets to the build, thus rendering the chipset install moot- yet if that where the case, not sure why they'd tell you to install it and NSS set before anything else.

Chipset- obtained from the drivers and downloads section for the machine via the systems tag-

I've learned the best way to deal with the issue is to disable Wake from USB in teh BIOS, then install windows and the chipset driver - this leaves only the WFP warning on the PCI.SYS file.

All-in-all, guess it doesn't matter at this point- the machine runs and things appear ok- course, I had all sorts of odd little problems with the XPS - and this was just 1...  so far (knock wood) the M6300 has not given me any grief... I'm about 50% through my build-  I have way too much software to install- I really really really hate the process.....

Have you checked the file versions to see whether or not they were in fact replaced (updated)? Often, WFP will stop file replacement during an install and create that log, but on restart the files are replaced.

I have that, for example with ATI driver updates.
