What is GetPlus[R]_ocx in Add/Remove windows?

My computer asked for update the Adobe 8.1.

I clicked "yes" for update. After which in find in my Add/Remove updated Adobe as 8.1.2.

Also another has appeared with same date as GetPlus _ocx. What is this download.

Am I safe to leave it?

From what I understand, it is a download manager that Adobe uses to collect information.

Good Luck

Edit

By the way i have mine updated to 8.1.2 and this GetPlus _ocx is not in my add and remove .

You may want to check this out for sure and find where it came from

it did not come in with my update!

It came with Adobe and you can safely uninstall it. When you clicked "Click To Install Active X Control" you gave it permission to install.

Open Adobe and go to Help/Check for Updates from the tool bar and let it run. Then click "Preferences" in the in the opened window and uncheck "Automatically Check for Adobe Reader Updates", then "OK" and close everything out.

You can check for updates for every program manually and do NOT have to install the Active X controls. There's always an alternate link "If Your Download Doesn't Start Automatically, Click Here". Just download it from there to your desktop and install after removing the older version.

Always uninstall previous versions prior to installing new versions and delete them from program files.

Program manufacturers work so hard to install numerous other useless things on your computer they claim are useful when in fact they are resource hogs and almost act like spyware.

Thanks C3PO5 for that information.

I think, since I uninstalled the Adobe 8.1 and when installed the latest adobe 8.1.2 only this install manager is added on!!

In your case you probably just updated and the install manager did not get installed.

Thanks for your posting.

Sorry for the delay. Just got off work.

You are very welcome! I'm so sick of programmers slipping things in that the average person would not notice. That's why the majority of consumers computers run slow. If you have ten programs checking for updates and running at start - up along with the legitimate programs and processes it's an unnecessary drag on resources.

Of coarse you want you anti - virus and anti - spyware to do this but not much else needs to.

In most programs the auto - update and auto - run features can be disabled within the program.
