What is Java VM?

I own a dell 8200 with Win XP pro as OS.  I´ve heard quite a bit about Java VM but I do not know what it does.   I checked the sun microsystems web site for information but I did not find a clear information about what this software does.

Can some explain what Java VM does, please. Also, how can I know whether I have installeded on my computer?

Thanx

Myunverse,

Java VM is a broswer plug-in that allows you to view java applets. If you click on the link to "My Homepage" there will be a 3 dimentional rotating star. If you can not see it, and you are using IE, click on "Tools"-"Internet Options..."-"Advanced Tab"-scroll down the list and look for "Microsoft VM" and place a checkmark in the box for "JIT Compiler..."-click "Apply"-"OK" and restart your computer. If you do not find "Microsoft VM" listed under the "Advanced Tab" you will have to install either the Sun Microsystems viewer or MS Java VM.

downloading ms virtual machine from the website in the previous post is difficult, if not impossible.. here are two links where you can download ms virtual machice: http://www.virtualmachine.tk/  http://www.wildtangent.com/install/jvm/msjavx86_3805.exe  note that you need to download "build 3805".. then you can update it at the windows updates website..

To check if you have Microsoft VM Java installed you can use IE ....Advanced tab & scroll to Java listing as a Reply said or use Command Prompt &  type
jview

if installed it will be accepted & give details of Microsoft VM Java.

You can also connect to this site & it will auto show the Java you are using in pink box.

You can have both SUN & VM Java installed & switch between then by use IE , Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab , scroll to Java listing & remove tick from SUN Java if both installed.
