Which program is set up as you default e-mail program?  To see, open Internet Explorer and click on Tools > Inernet Options then click on the Programs tab.  Change the program to use for e-mail to the program that you normally use for e-mail.

I have a similar problem that I posted a few weeks ago. I am not able to "send link/page via e-mail"....outlook always pops up. I use Yahoo for my email, but there is no way to set that as my default. I have to copy and paste the link in a new email. Kind of a roundabout way, but it works.

Will try and field both questions here at once.

Miriam, do you have Outlook 97 or 98 installed on your system? Or Office 97/98? These may be a culprit for it not working. There is an issue with the default mail program not working properly if you install and old version of Outlook over top of Outlook Express. This article: 176571 explains the issue that I am referring to. If that doesn't solve the issue, then you may not have a mail client installed, which can be remedied easily. It would be handy to know if you are getting any error messages when you click, or if anything comes up. You can check if you have outlook express installed by going to your "Start Menu", select "Run", in the box, type: MSIMN and then click OK. If a program starts up, you have outlook express installed, if it doesnt, then you should get an error.

Aldazar - lemme try and explain the email thing, it took me a while to get it too. The best way that I can explain it, is using the example of having a post office box at the post office, and the mailbox in front of your home.

YahooMail/Hotmail/Gmail etc are all like having a post office box to send and receive your mail from. In order to get to that mail, you have to actually go to the post office. In order to send mail, you have to go to a post office.

You Internet Service Provider email address is much like the mailbox in front of your house, you dont have to go anywhere to get the mail, the mailman brings it to you and can take it out for you.

When you click on a link on a webpage that is an email link, your computer checks to see what kind of email program it can send from. If you have an ISP email, then the program used for it, say Outlook Express, will open up, and send and receive your mail for you. Much like you writing a letter and putting it in your mailbox for the mailman to pick up later.
If your computer does not find an email set up, it wont open a program up for you. Instead, you have to log into your Yahoo account (like going to the post office) to send and receive your mail.

Yahoomail and Hotmail offer a paid service that will allow you to make their service available from Outlook Express (or other email program also). This would allow you to set up the email information in Outlook Express and use it as if it were your ISP email. Paying for this service, gives you the convenience of having the "mailman at the door" service.

I hope it makes a bit more sense, if not lemme know and I'll answer any questions you have.

(sorry for semi-hijacking this post Miriam)

No problem for hijacking my topic...I will forgive you this time  :womanwink: I have no idea if my OE is either 97/98.  All I do know is that a friend of mine told me I needed a default mail, and she somehow did something to get it. I got this pc in 2002/May and joined here, so hopefully you can figure it out....cause I have no idea where to look for it of which year OE is  :womanindifferent:

Okay, gonna need you to check a couple of things.

First, go to START menu, click on RUN, in the box type MSIMN, and hit OK, need to know if anything opens up or if you get an error. If you get an error, then you DO NOT have Outlook Express installed (although its unlikely). You will likely get a window that opens up, says Outlook Express, when the program opens you should see a box that say OUTLOOK EXPRESS and a number, like 6.0 or something. That would indicate you DO have Outlook Express.

Second, to check for Microsoft Outlook (not to be confused with Outlook Express), go to START menu, click on RUN, in the box type OUTLOOK and hit OK, this may open another program, Outlook. If nothing opens, and you get an error message, then you DO NOT have Outlook installed. If you get something that opens up, then it should say Microsoft Outlook ****, the ****'s are a year, 97,98,2000,2003 etc. If you could check that and get back to me, I'll follow up on this. (its a long weekend, I'll be back on Monday to check on this).

Hi Steve,

When I type in MSIMN and hit OK my OE popped back to my email. No error page occured.  When I typed OUTLOOK, an error message occured.  My friend is very knowledgable with computers and is an accountant whom does the accounting on a computer softwear.

So why is it I can't email from certain sites like I mentioned~?

Have a good weekend  :womanwink:
