Widnows Explorer Problems-Not Responding Error Messages.
Not sure what is going on with this computer. It's an XPS-420 running Vista. Since the computer works fine for the most part I continue to use it since a backup is available. It has IE9 which is as high as it will go for Vista. I could try to use another browser like Chrome, if that is the problem, but have no idea how to get it up and working with MSN and my Outook mail account. Not sure what version of Windows Explorer I have.
In the last couple of weeks I have had trouble getting some things to work. Just a short while ago, neither the Windows Update button in the tray or under Start would bring up the Windows update page. The other day I could open the Control Panel, but could not get Internet Options or Security Center to open although other buttons worked...I did not check all of them. At other times I can pull up pictures and start videos playing in what I call My Documents file, but the right click will not bring up the menu if I want to delete or rename something. After awhile I close the page and get a Windows Explorer Not Responding message and close it that way. What is making this interesting is the above symptoms come and go and are not present all the time or every day. The problems are intermittent.
In just about every other respect this computer works fine except for what appears to be a Windows browser issue. Is there any way to "reset" Windows or are some kind of diagnotic tests I can run on it see what is going on. Thanks for any suggestions and advice.

Windows Vista is getting obsolete, no Office 2013, IE10/11 or downloadable installation media. It would be better to install Windows 10. You can pay for an upgrade to Windows 8.1 now and then take the free upgrade path from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.
Alternatively you can get the Windows 10 Technical Preview now and then purchase Windows 10 with any promotional discounts from Microsoft:

Thanks for your quick reply. I tried Windows 8 or 8.1 and was not happy with it. I am thinking of trying the Windows 10 but have never performed an OS upgrade before. I just want to save my MSN homepage, the Outlook email page, and my Favorites even if the format is a bit different or the page looks somewhat different.
As an alternative...until this computer gives it up...I thought of trying Chrome. I downloaded and played aroung with it on my backup computer which has Windows 7, but did not choose to make it the default browser. Not sure how to integrate it seamlessly with what I now have. Would want to get it up and working with the same expectations as above. Getting loads of IE error messages, so I better break down and make some changes soon.
