The disk is doing what it is supposed to do.  If the disk was also made with the Microsoft CD extensions, it will allow you to run setup from a Win 95 CD.  Win 95 was also made as a set of special high density format floppy disks.  If you have these you can load Win 95 directly from the floppy drive.

In order to get better help, you will need to post the model number of your PC and let us know how it is equipped (3.5 floppy, CD drive, hopefully both).

The PC has a 3.5 floppy and a CD drive, model No Dell Dimension XPS D266. I can get it to read the floppy on start up but thats it, how do I move around to see whats on the list of files and then I am unsure of what commands to type in. Thanks for the reply.

goldenboys856,

I have an XPS D266 which is running as my backup computer quite nicely. From your posts it appears that your son has deleted some of the system files required by Windows 95. The emergency boot floppy disk which you are using cannot be used to replace those missing files. It appears that the solution to the problem is to reinstall Windows 95 (or 98 or 98SE, which the system will support nicely). For that you will need a Windows CD, either a retail Windows 95 CD (which Dell shipped with early versions of that computer model) or a Dell 95 reinstallation CD (pictured here). The instructions for installing 95 with either version of the Cd are here.

Of course this will remove any perishable data from the system's hard disk. If there is anything there that is critical the only way to retrieve it is to mount the hard drive from the D266 into another system and copy the data to removable media.
