Win XP doesn't start after Windows Update

Question

Hi! I just installed all Windows Security updates since sp2 on my inspiron 5160. Now every time i try to start windows it stops short after the first splash screen. The display stays black for about 15s then the systm reboots.... I installed the same update pack on my desktop pc and everything works fine....Is anyone there who had the same problem? Now i have to reinstall windows and don't know what updated caused the damage.... I want to keep my system up to date but it would take a lot of time to install every update stept by step and reboot.... Thanks in advance maxit

Tapping F8 at the Dell splash screen will get you to the windows advanced screen, select 'last known good config that worked' hit enter.

If you can get into safe mode . . in device manager roll back the driver for your video card . . I had one yesterday throw up on a video card update that came in with the M/S updates

Yes, I never install any of the optional updates, seems like their video drivers always cause problems on Dells. I suggest getting your hardware driver updates from Dell, or the hardware manufacturer.

None of the boot menu options work. Even Debug Mode and use last good config that worked lead to a black screen. I will reinstall winxp and try to update the video card after the updates...

This one was strange . . it came in with the automatic updates . .
