Win98 System slowed by McAfee Internet Security 6 upgrade?
Hello,
I'm concerned that an upgrade to McAfee Internet Security 6 from VirusScan 3.1.6 has possibly caused my Windows 98 system to slow down. Since I only did it earlier this evening, I only had an opportunity to notice that the starting and shutting down of the desktop seems much slower. Can anyone offer me some advice about whether this system would be unable to handle this software? (The system in my auto-signature below is not the system in question.) Thanks.

It may that the older windows will not handle the VS 6. Mcafee VS fully turned on (good) maybe be slower on start up/shut down then the older Mcafee, it is doing more. Mcafee has a support forum similiar to Dell's and some very sharp and hard workers (volunteers) online. Post to the VS 6 forum for the best results, they may move it from else where. I am sure if you get it posted they will work with you if it is not a problem with the Win 3 and VS 6.
Good Luck

Jake02324,
Thanks for the reply, and the info. I also went back, after my original post here, to the McAfee one-on-one tech support chat where they had earlier indicated to me that the Internet Security 6 was comparable to the Dell McAfee Security Center on our new Dell (again, not the one listed below). It hadn't occurred to them to mention minimum requirements on the earlier chat, but I found out that they are Win98, IE5, 70MB disk space and 64MB RAM, with possibly 128MB for the latter being better. The older system in question was bought in early 1998 with just 16MB SDRAM (expandable to 256MB), so it may be a case of now needing to add some memory (probably not a bad idea in and of itself).
