WinDVD won't install after XP upgrade

Hi, I have a Dell Dimension 4100 that came preloaded with Windows ME. After upgradering to Windows XP Home (full reinstall) the WinDVD application from the original Dell CDs won't install (WinDVD 2000 2.1), it complains about it not being a Dell system..

Any tips on how to get DVD playback on my Dell back greatly appreciated!

Windows Media Player will play your DVDs just fine.

I don't know what a "full reinstall" means.  Did you remove all partitions, make a new one, format it, and install XP?  Or did you just do an upgrade install w/o a format?

WinDVD 2.1 may be looking for a Dell OEM OS and you installed a RETAIL version...

Hi, thx for quick reply.

XP/WMP has no DVD codec by default in the retail OS package (usually comes bundled preinstalled on OEMs with DVD drive, like with the Dell WinDVD software I'm trying to install).

yes, I reformatted disk and did a new fresh install of retail XP Home.. And the install is probably trying to check if I have a genuine Dell like you say, which I have - just not the OEM OS anymore..

Was hoping for some clever trick, or service/download from Dell, to get WinDVD installed on my Dell system again... :)
