Windows 7 64-bit Screen Resolution Issues

In past attempts of installing the 64-bit version of Windows 7 on my laptop, I have had issues with the screen resolution not matching what it was with the 32-bit resolution.  Currently in the 32-bit version, I'm running 1920 x 1200.  Since I haven't tried re-installing the 64-bit version, I don't remember what it was then.  I just remember it being a vastly different display.

I'm currently running a Dell Studio with 2.10 GHz Intel Core2 Duo processor with 4.00 GB.

Any ideas as to why the different display on the 64 bit versus 32 bit?  Or anything I can do to duplicate the display in 32-bit to 64-bit?  I'd like to ultimately run 64-bit for several Adobe applications.

Thanks.

Windows 7 should install it automatically or allow you to search for it on the MS Win 7 site. Run the upgrade advisor now to see if there are 64 bit drivers for your video card.  This can be a problem in laptops since you cannot replace the onboard graphics. I would stay with 32 bit to keep the higher resolution.

Dell Studio is the name of many models. What exact model number? You need 64bit display drivers for Win 7 and you also need to have a cpu that's 64bits capable. You also must do a clean install when changing to 64 bit. You cannot do an in place upgrade. Run the Upgrade Advisor now to see if your model can run 64bits. .

It's a Dell Studio 1535.  I understand that I need to do a clean install for 64 bit, and my system is capable of running 64-bit.  Maybe it was that I needed a 64-bit driver for my video card?  If so, where can I find that?  I obviously have all of the original CDs for drivers and utilities, etc.

Thanks.

I kinda doubt that you are running a Dell Studio 15 at 1920 x 1200.  According to the Dell Documentation the maximum resolution is 1024 x 768.  Side issue, I am running my system at 1920 x 1200, but on a 24 inch monitor, not 15.6 inches.

Your assessment is incorrect for my system.  I am running that resolution on my Studio laptop.  I purchased the display upgrade.  That's also what is listed in the Control Panel for my screen resolution.
