Hi,

The Dell systems are shipped with the factory installed image saved in a partition of the hard drive. However, what I understand from your post is that you have already re-partitioned the hard drive so you won’t be able to do a PC restore to factory settings using the 'PC restore .exe' command.
You won’t be able to get the recovery discs shipped to India and neither will you be able to install from any other Windows 7 DVD using the product key. However, we can ship out the cds to any address in the US and then you can get it shipped to India or you can contact Dell India Tech support for more options.
I am adding you as a friend; please accept my friend request and send me a personal message with the system Service Tag,account holders name and US address, if you want me to ship the recovery discs to US.
Please reply for any further questions.

I'm sorry for sounding like a five year old, but I only use Windows if I need to use Word... If I were to merge (delete) my current partitions (exept for /dev/sda1 [DellUtility] & /dev/sda2 [Recovery]) and reformat them into one big /dev/sda3 ntfs partition, at mount point /, would I be able to use "x:\tools\pcrestore.exe"?

Download the image Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) - X17-58997.

Use the Microsoft .iso to USB/DVD tool to create a bootable DVD or USB (requires a blank DVD or USB flash stick of at least 4 GB).

Note: You may use the HP Format Tool to format your USB stick (run it as an administrator) after the windows install so you may use it as a USB stick again.

Then see A Clean Install of Windows 7. With regards to Standalone Updates, I recommend you to install:

Internet Explorer 9 (64 bit)

Microsoft Security Essentials

Microsoft Security Essentials Latest Definition (64 bit)

After installation of Microsoft Windows. The drivers and downloads I generally obtain directly from the Dell Drivers and Downloads website as they are more up to date. Dell have been having some issues with their Drivers and Downloads and we are working with them to improve it. Therefore I recommend to select the system by model and not via Service Tag. What exact model of Inspiron do you have? What customisations did you make, wireless card, video card, audio etc.

Thanks, Philip!

So, I am to download "Windows 7 (English) with Service Pack 1 - Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) - X17-58997" (for my system has 6gb of memory) and burn it to a disc? Also, should I use the Drivers and Utilities disc that came with the computer or download the drivers from the site, after instillation?

Thanks for putting that wiki together!

Dell System Software Under System Utilites is missing.

4 chipset drivers are missing.

The Intel Rapid Storage Technology Application under SATA drivers is missing.

The Intel Turbo Boost Technology Monitor Software under CPU is missing.

The Network Ethernet Controller is missing.

The Intel Wireless Display Connection Manager under Video is also missing.

Thank you so much Abhishek and Philip!

After being routed to the Dell's US Support a few times, I made it to India's support via Dell's global telephone routing system. India's Dell Support was able to put through a request for my Recovery Disc. It'll take a week or two, for it's being rerouted to India, but it's coming.

Thank you both for the Help, especially you Philip!
