Windows Defender Problem
I don't think that you can help, but I'll give it a try. My Dell 8400 has Windows XP Pro in it. It is up to date and running normal. Except for Windows Defender. Windows Defender will NOT auto scan (scheduled scans). I have tryed every solution I could find. I finally found the problem. The following link describes my problem EXACTLY, Word For Word.
Because my operating system is an OEM I cannot get support from Microsoft, is there any other way I can obtain this HOT FIX?
Thank You For Your Time

Thank you for yor reply. I am very familiar with Windows Defender. This problem has to do with the auto scan only. Other than auto scan Defender works. I have been trying to use "scheduled tasks" in the "performance and Maintenence" part of "Control Panel" but I get an access is denied message. ONLY Scheduling Defender gives me this message.
I have been working on this problem for about 2-3 weeks. The problem has to do with 2 recent Windows Updates. There is a Hot Fix available, but my OEM version prevents me from getting help from Microsoft.
Yes I am logged on as Administrator, yes I have a Windows password set, Yes I have unistalled and reinstalled Defender, Yes I have tryed to schecule the task manually. None of these fixes will work.
Again I thank you for your response. At this point I will try anything, but the Hot Fix might be the only solution.

Defender is in your scheduler. Click on "advanced" then click on "Veiw Hidden Tasks". Defender will be "MP Scheduled Task". I know how to schedule a task in Defender and I know how to manually schedule a task in the Windows Task Scheduler. Neither will work. The problem is specific to XP Pro and was caused by the last 2 Windows Updates.
The problem boils down to the fact that I cannot change the RUN AS line in the task Scheduler properties for Defender. I get the following error,

I meant absolutely no disrespect, and if took my post the wrong way I am truly sorry. Please accept my apology because that was not my intent.
I know the solution, I was wondering if there is a way to get the fix from Dell. Because My OS an OEM, Microsoft will not provide support, they do have a fix,I just can not get it from them
Bummer

That's why i gave you the link so you could maybe find something about your problem
in the Windows Defender newsgroups. Somebody else may have had the same problem
and found a solution. It wouldn`t hurt to check it out. Good luck

Thank you for your response, Microsoft is aware of the problem and they have a fix for it. But because my version of Windows is an OEM (Dell Supplied) they will not provide me with the fix.
If I had a retail version, they would provide me with the fix. According to Microsoft the fix will be in the next Service Pack, but who knows when that will be.
But thats why I was wondering if Dell could get the Fix or give me information on how to get it.
There is a way around the fix but I am not sure how to do it. I need to go to Gpedit.msc then to "Local Computer Policy" them to "Computer Configuration" then "Windows Settings" then "Security Settings" then Local Policies" and finally open User Rights Assignment. I now will double click on Access this computer from the network.
I can now add a user and work around my problem. The error log from the computer says
