I don't mean to be negative here, but I found Defender to be more trouble than it is worth, I disable it on all my PC's.

But I found this.

Possibel solution - login as administrator and then try again.  I use Windows Defender on all my PCs with no ill effects.

When I start my PC Defender reports a blocked program - Adobe update Manager. if I view the details for the program it is digitally signed and says it is permitted.

There are 3 buttons - Remove, disable, and Enable. Enable is greyed out and unavalible- in fact it is greyed out on any program I select - even unclasified.

How do you permantely allow a program through Defender?

Open Defender from the start menu, go to Tools at the top, then go to Allowed Items and add the program to the list.

Have a month-old Dell Inspiron 531 with Vista Home Premium. I have
disabled Defender everyplace I can find a spot to do so.  Now,
however, I get a nag screen at boot up telling me it is disabled and
the world will come to an end unless I "enable" it again.  So, what
is the registry entry to delete that will stop that darn nag screen.
Or anything else that will turn it off?

It says this:
"Application failed to initialize: 0x800106ba. A problem
caused this program's service to stop. To start the service,
restart your computer or search Help and Support for
how to start a service manually."

The problem that turned it off is ME.  I turned it off everywhere.
I would like to delete the app, but MS won't let me do so.  I am
the Admin too :-'/

Start the Defender Service, set it to auto.

Go to Start/all programs/windows defender, open the defender program, go to the Tools icon, Options section, scroll down to the bottom and Untick "Use Windows Defender" hit save, then close.

No more Defender or nags.
