Windows Explorer error 0xc0000005

Every time I start up my computer I get a message that says:

explorer.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.

SO Windows Explorer won't run. I have to run my whole computer from the Task Manager. It's very frustrating. Can anyone help?

Hello There
If you have the windows XP CD, try running a repair installation which would fix the problem.
Or, in task manager, start a new task and type "c:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe" and then click on OK.
It will open the System restore window. Then click next on the first screen and then select a "Bold" date from the Calender when u feel the system was working fine. then follow the on-screen instructions.

I tried the thing through the task manager and the only date available for me to click on was today's date and I tried it and obviously there was no change.

AND the XP disc didn't come with my computer. I probably need to send it in to have it worked on huh?

hello there
if you have not received the CDs with the computer, call Dell Technical Support and place a request for the CDs. Alternatively you can ask them to help you with the repair installation. you need not send the computer off to get it fixed.
