Windows Explorer fails to open........

I am having problems opening Windows Explorer, My Documents, My Pictures, My Music, My Computer, My Network Places, Control panel, and Search.  What should I do?  I would have to use "run" to open any programs that are in these folders.

What happens when you try opening Windows Explorer, My Documents, My Pictures, My Music, My Computer, My Network Places, Control panel, and Search?

Have you checked for viruses, trojans, etc.?

Yes, I did check for viruses, trojan, etc.  My system is clean.  I guess too clean.  Nothing happens when I click on those programs.  I don't get no errors at all.  I just get a short tone and that's it and nothing else.  What should I do?

Ok, I think you've lost your file association for folders. Try this. Start, Run, type "CMD" without the quotes, OK, and you'll get a "command prompt". Enter these commands and hit enter after each one:

  • ftype folder=%SystemRoot%\Explorer.exe /idlist,%I,%L
  • assoc folder=folder
  • exit (to exit the command prompt)

Tried it and nothing happens.  Getting the same short tone and no openings.
