Windows Product Key XPS 17 (L702x)
Hi,
2 years ago I bought a Dell laptop "XPS 17 (L702x)" my fabrication code is . I want to format my laptop and make it "new" again but I notice that my windows product key is impossible to read. I can see some part of the key but not all. It's xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx. In this way I will not be able to re-install it. Can you give me the missing part of my code? Where can I ask for it? I've try to use a KeyFinder but I know for sure that they are "finding" the wrong code because I can read more that half of it and it's not matching. Please help me!

The key finder gives the Dell System locked Preinstallation Key which is used for Dell OEM activation.
You can find more information (in my very long document). See Windows Reinstallation Guide/A Clean install of Windows 7 Step 2 to backup the product activation just in case:

If you are using the Dell Reinstallation DVD your product should automatically input the Dell SLP key and activate when a Dell BIOS is corrected. If you are using a Windows 7 .iso (recommended as it includes Service Pack 1) then you can use the activation backup and recovery program and restore the product activation as mentioned in Step 11. A Clean Install of Windows 7 will help guide you through the installation process

I have "Dell Reinstallation DVD Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit"
Are you 100% sure that using this disk I will not have to enter Windows key?
I'm sorry to doubt you but I can't make mistakes about it or I will be in big trouble.

Neither Dell nor Microsoft can give you the rest of the code, nor can they supply another one.
If you use a Dell-branded installation disk, then you will not be prompted for the Product Key, as it will activate automatically.

I won't guarantee anything that is not in my own control, but they are designed NOT to need the Product Key. OEM (Dell, HP, etc.) media has a special key (returned with keyfinder) and activation mechanism that auto-activates Windows with the proper OEM media. Is it possible that something will go wrong (phony disk, faulty copy, scratches, hardware replacement, system or media corruption, etc.) and it will ask you, yes, but by design, it will not. I have done MANY of these.
You can also backup your existing activation (if you can boot to Windows), then restore it after the installation. You can find instructions somewhere in this long document:

Or you can google "windows 7 backup activation" for details/instructions.
