Windows/SoftwareDistribution/Download ???

In Windows Explorer I have a folder called windows/softwaredistribution/download.....In this folder it appears to have my SP2 update downloads.  There are about 140 MBs.  Are these the instalation files & if so since these updates have been installed do I need to keep these files or are these files the actual updates themselves.  Also recently there has been quite a few problems caused by some recent Windows auto updates. The last one I used was two days ago and after I installed it my Internet Explorer wasn't working correctly.  I've seen several posts in the Dell Forum where people are saying that Dell isn't recomending using "Auto Updates".  Please let me know what I should do...use the auto updates or not.

As far as the auto updates, NO. I want complete control over any updates especially after the 4/11/06 update fiasco. Now I'll wait at least a month or more to see if there are any bugs in the updates before I'll even consider d/ling them. Just a cautious opinion.

I've never used Auto Updates.  I like to see what is being installed but having said that, I have never refused a critical patch either and have never seen any ill affects.

Chucket makes a good point but generally you may clear out the download folder safely.  I cleared mine recently knowing of course that I will be sticking with SP2.  I decided it was ok to do this after viewing info in a link in a Major Geeks support forum that addressed this very question.  Good luck.
